Password secured pages

D

Davet102

I'm using FP2000 on a Vista machine.

I have never tried to secure a page with a password. I can't seem to find
were and how to do that.

Can someone do 1 of 2 things:

1. Give me the steps, Step by step on how to do that

or

2. Send me to a web site that can step me through it.

I have a need to do it but can't seem to find where/how to do it.

Thanks

Bob

Thanks for the info.

From looking at the sites you listed it looks like this is a "Totally"
secure site.

Maybe I did not explain my self well enough.

I want a web site that is totally open to whoever wants to look at it.

But within that site I want to be able to "ask for a password" that is given
to individuals so they can get to a specific page.
But if you do not know that password, you cannot get to those "special"
pages in the web site.

do you use access and have FrontPage server extensions on your host site

I have Access (the program).

I do/can have the Front Page extensions.

Other than that I'm not sure what your talking about when you talk about
that "asp".

I want to be able to just enter a password to let them in. I do not want to
have to put in a user name. There are so many people in this certain group
and it changes so much changing the PW is easier than deleteing the UN and
entering a new one.

Then contact your host to set permission on the folder, but will still require a userid and
password.

To use "Just a password" and keep the pages secure will require server
side scripting (asp, php, asp.NET), the script you use depends on what
your server and host support. If you want each user to have their own
password you will need a database - this could be Access if you have a
Windows server, or mySQL if hosted on Unix.

You could use client side JavaScript - but the security provided is
NILL.
