pdf from Publisher

I insert from file a large map (jpeg) to Publisher. The map looks fine in
Publisher(2003). But when I tried to convert the page to pdf. The pdf map
looks blurry.

Another problem is when I inserted (from file) a large map (in pdf format)
into Publisher, the colours of the map are different from the source. How can
I fix the colours in Publisher?

Please help! Thanks!

What quality settings have you set your PDF software to?

What application are you looking at the colours in? Some applications such
as Photoshop will use a colour correction profile to make screen colours
appear more like printed output. Publisher cannot do this, and so screen
appearance will differ. Printed appearance may often be different from
both.

quality setting for PDF software( Acrobat PDF Writer):
Grapic: Resolution- screen; Scaling- 100%

Compression Options: General- compress text and fine art; downsample images
colour/Grayscale Images: Compress using -jpeg medium
Monochrome images: compress using: CCITT Group 4
Portable Document Format Driver version 5.0

What application are you looking at the colours in- 2003 Publisher. The
colous of print and Publisher look the same but different from the source
document (pdf).

If you have good eyes, a medium JPEG setting will produce visible blurring,
especially at zoom levels larger than 100%. Also, pixilation can start to
appear at zoom levels higher than 100% when using the Screen options. Try a
higher quality setting.

Is the source document a PDF or a JPEG? Your posts contradict each other.

Sorry to confuse you!

I have two scenario:
first problem is related to inserting a large map (jpeg) to Publisher and
the second problem is related to inserting a large map(from file) in pdf
format to Publisher.

How have you imported the PDF into your publication?

Did you check the colours of the intermediary JPEG file in a graphics
program before importing into Publisher?

Have you tried using a PNG file instead? JPEG files are lossy and are not
appropriate for line-drawn images such as maps - they are better for photos.
PNG will be lossless (no artefacts) and should have comparable or smaller
filesize. Unless of course this is a scanned map, in which case JPEG may be
more appropriate.
