powerpoint on webpage

I posted this question a while back, but I still have a problem. I can not
"open" any powerpoints from the internet. I have windows xp and powerpoint
is installed on my computer. I can make and view powerpoints from there.
However, when I am on a website that has powerpoint presentations, they will
not open. I have turned off my norton internet security settings. I have
turned off my firewall. I have turned off pop-up blocker. They still will
not open. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Yes, I have read this. I have made sure the PowerPoint presentation file
type is checked to browse in same window. Any other suggestions? This is
really bugging me that I can not get it figured out.

Yes, I can click save and download a ppt to my computer. It works that way.
I had been able to just click "open" and it would open. That is what I
really want to do.

"will not open" means when I click on "open" the hour glass comes up, it
says down at the bottom of the screen that the ppt is downloading...then, I
see a quick flash like the ppt is going to open, but, then nothing. I don't
get an error message.

Thanks for your replies. I am just stumped and frustrated because I can
figure it out.

When I double click on a PPT file from my hard drive it opens...no problem.
I have restarted Windows, but that doesn't help.

I have Windows XP. PPT Version 10. Does SP mean Service Pack? I have
Service Pack 2.

Do you have SP2 for Windows or for Office? You should have both. To check
which version and SP of Office you have: open PPT, go to Help--> About PPT,
and check the end of the first line.

If you don't have the Office SP installed, then go back to Help and this
time go to Check for Updates. Follow the links on the webpage that takes you
to.

Thanks, Kathy, I have WindowsXP 2003 with SP2 and I have SP3 for PPT. Is
there a SP3 for Windows I should download?

No SP3 for Windows XP. Sounds like you are up to date for both Windows and
Office SPs.

at the top of your browser window? I am wondering if your browser is set to
block PPT content....

I noticed earlier you said you turned off Norton. (Or something to that
effect.)

I've nooooo idea if this will work, but try disabling the plug-in using the
instructions at

Norton Anti-Virus and Office

Also, check your firewall settings to see if PPT content is blocked somehow.

Ooooooh, and aren't there trusted locations or something in IE? Wonder what
happens if you add your site to trusted sites (ah, here it is:
Tools|Internet Options|Security) or temporarily turn your security level to
the lowest it will go...

Did you see my other question post? I am wondering if you are getting an
alert bar at the top of the screen and that is stopping the presentation
from playing.

(Echo's idea to check the trusted sites list is related to this in a warped
kind of way...)

seems like when I turned Norton off it would have turned that plug in off
