Preventing Edit of Graphics in Word Document

I have a Word 2003 document with pictures of Excel graphs in the document.
We are not sure if we're sending the native Word document or a PDF'd version
to the client. In any case, I'd like to prevent any editing of the tables
and figures within the document. How would I go about doing that?

I've found that GIF's and JPEG's are not editable in the Word document, but
we need them to be scalable and these aren't.

I'd like to try to insert figures that are Scalable Vector Graphics into my
Word document, but Word doesn't recognize them. Is there any way I can get
it to recognize SVG's?

Hi Barb,

MS doesn't have support for SVG graphics in Word but
does support VML as well as using WMF and EMF graphics.

It's not clear what your actual need is. You mention
that you need to be able to prevent editing but want
people to be able to resize the graphics (a picture
of an Excel Chart)?

Let me try to clarify this. There are two people working on the document.
We want to have figures(mostly Excel Graphs) that are scalable while we are
working on the document. At this time, I've copied the Excel graphs as
pictures into the Word document. When we are finished, we don't want the
client to be able to edit the figures. I think this is probably two
questions in one.

If you don't want someone to edit the charts then insert them as pictures
rather than Excel charts. (Edit > Paste Special > Picture)

You can't stop someone capturing a graphic on screen and editing it in
picture editing software (PSP or Pbrush) but you can make it hard for them to
do it by always using the picture format as if you copy and paste this into
PSP or Pbrush it goes blurry!

Any thing in an electronic form is editable in some fashion by the determined
person. PDF's are a bit harder to crack than Word documents. If the
documents are meant to inform the client and not meant for the client to
edit, PDF's are the best way to go.
