Printing problem with Publisher 2002

I am having a problem printing certain documents with Pub 2002. I try and
print a single page color document with my HP Office Jet Pro K5400 printer
and it goes into the printing que and then it disappears. The printer runs
for a second as if its going to print but then nothing futher happens. I try
and print that document in black & white I get the same result. I thought
maybe it was the size of the document at 417 KB but I am able to print an
identical size document without a problem. I am having this problem with
several different Publisher 2002 flyers that I have created. The printer is
only a couple of weeks old and I have not having this issue with any programs
except Publisher 2002. I have 150 GB of free space on my hard drive so that
shouldnt be an issue. Any ideas?

especially the part about "Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer
Communication Issue." Make sure you have the most recent drivers also. The
ones on the installation disk received with the printer may not be the most
recent.

Do you have the latest service packs for Publisher 2002 (XP) installed?

I do have XP and I installed the Critical Update, restarted the computer but
I am still having the same problem. I want to clarify the problem a bit.
When I print this document and then open the printing queue I see the
document there for about 2 or 3 seconds and then it disappears. Normally it
will be visible in the queue until the document is done printing. The
printer itself will begin to make some noise as if its going to print and
then nothing further happens. This only happens with certain Publisher
documents for some reason. I thought it was the size of the document but I
am able to print others that are almost identical in size with Publisher
without a problem. Any other suggestions?

This was a solution posted sometime ago:

Hope this works for someone else: I went to the Printer folder and selected a
new default printer. I used an old one, (You don't need the physical printer,
just a driver, any will do). Then I hit print preview and it finally showed a
preview. Then I minimized that screen and went back to the printer folder and
defaulted back to my preferred printer. I then brought back up the minimized
preview screen from publisher and hit PRINT. It worked, and now it seems to
recognize my printer without going through it each time.
