Problem viewing picture inserted in Word document

When I insert a picture into a Word 2003 document, I cannot view the image.
I can see the black box around the image, but not the image itself. I can't
see the image when I do a print preview either. The "picture placeholders"
box is not checked. What else should I do?

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | check the "Drawings" box | Print |
check the "Drawing objects" box | OK.

Try decreasing or turning off hardware acceleration in your display adapter.
This setting can be accessed in Start | Control Panel | Display | Properties.

I tried reducing the hardware acceleration and still didn't have any luck.
Even with the acceleration set at none, I still couldn't view the image.

Possibly the picture you inserted is an .eps file that does not contain a
preview? What method did you use to insert the picture?

I tried to copy a .jpg and a .gif from the web. I tried both copy/past and
also tried to save the pictures as a file and then insert them. Nothing
seems to work. The only images I have had success with are inserting
Microsoft clipart but now I'm trying to insert pictures of the Apollo 11
mission into my daughter's school report.

When copying an image from the web, try right-clicking on the image,
left-click on copy, switch to Word, click on Edit | Paste Special | Paste:
As: | Picture | OK.

It worked when I selected paste as "device indpendent bitmap" from the Paste
Special menu. Thank you very much!!

Great! When you copy an image from the web and do a regular paste
(Ctrl+V, click the Paste button, or click Edit | Paste), you're pasting
a link to the web page instead of an image.

And if you just paste and can ever the the picture in your document, then
Ctrl+Shift+F9 to unlink it.

I've been following this thread because something similar happened to me
after I installed SP2 and the JPEG security update. Previously I WAS able to
copy/paste a jpg image from a website into a Word document. Now I get the
hyperlink coding without the image. When I followed the earlier suggestion
to do a Paste Special, it worked, but the document was 2x the original size -
the Paste Special inserted the picture as a BMP file, whereas a simple Paste
previously gave me a jpg file. This only started happening after the recent
updates. Is there any way to restore the original functionality so I can go
back to simple pasting?

I have a similar problem as well. In the computer lab at the school where I
work, I have one machine that won't copy & paste pictures (Office 2000
programs). When I copy & paste a jpg from a digital camera it shows up as a
box with the filename in it. If I use Insert...Picture...from file it works
fine. Can anyone help?
