Problem with MS Office

A

Anguel Iordanov

Hi Everyone,

I am running Windows XP and MS Office 2003 I think.

Every time I start any MS applications my computer is trying to install some
kind of add on and it is asking for the original disk, which I no longer
have. Is there a way I can stop this and work as I used to before?

If you need me to answer any more questions please just ask.

Thank you very much for all your help?

Regards,

Anguel

Are you definitely using MS Office 2003?

Why is that relevant? Surely the more pertinent question is to inquire why
he no longer has the disc...?

Hi Mike,

Not really sure but can check and confirm with you. However I am more than
positive it is MS 2003.

I lost the original CD and my only option is to buy a new one. However at
the moment I don't feel there is a need for this. If my computer crash and I
need to reinstall MS Office I will purchase the software, until then I
prefer to use other measures to stop this nonsense.

Any idea how I can stop this?

It would me more useful if you gave me an advice rather than questioning
what happened to the original CD. If I had it I would not ask for help.

Excuse me but, as you're the one asking for assistance, you're in no
position to decide what is - or isn't - useful. It was a reasonable question
because the only way to fix that is to insert the CD and to let it finish.
There is no other way. So, unless you're prepared to obtain another CD,
you're going to have to live without Office.

In order to resolve a problem, it helps to know something specific about
it.. as it stands, you are not sure what version of Office is installed, you
make no mention of what specific add-in is trying to install, we don't know
if Office was supplied with your computer or whether you purchased it
separately, and you don't know where your CD is..

Miss PT is exactly right when she tells you that you require a CD.. a repair
install is out of the question as you are not in possession of a CD.. a
re-install is out of the question as you are not in possession of a CD.. you
need a CD..

If the computer was supplied with Office already installed, you should
contact the vendor..

If you purchased a retail full or upgrade from a store (it would have been
supplied in a sealed box), visit this website..

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326246

Please note that Microsoft will ask which version you have, so now may be a
good time to actually find out.. open any application within Office, then
click on HELP - ABOUT.. the version will be shown..

If you purchased an OEM Office CD (not supplied in a sealed box and
typically only available from 'discount' websites), you are entirely on your
own and will have to buy a new one..

That is normal for updates (asking for the CD).

* If you have a legal MS copy, you can get in touch with product support and
request a new CD.

* If you have a legal OEM copy, you will have to contact the manufacturer of
the computer and get a new copy.

* On some systems, the OEM bits are placed on the hard drive and you can
search for the product install folder and work from there (ie, you do not
have to have the CD, but you will have to surf on the hard drive to find the
install folder -- NOTE: If this is the case, it should have picked this up).

Outside of these scenarios, I do not have a clue of what to tell you other
than pick up a new CD.
