Problems with linking several charts in a Word document

I've linked 10+ Excel objects (charts & tables) into a
local Word document. As I try to link another object
the 'Paste Special' window doesn't recognize the object as
an Excel chart. Word takes a dump and sends an error
report. This has happened on different Word and Excel
files.
