problems with website published to my new computer

I have published my website from my server to my new laptop, and all the
files download properly, and the navigation view shows all my proper
hyperlinks.

However, when I use the "Preview" view (in Front Page 2003), the
within-a-page hyperlinks (bookmarks) work, the external hyperlinks (to e-mail
and other URLs) work, but the hyperlinks between the pages don't work.
After the site was published to my computer, I re-opened Front Page, clicked
onto the site now in my C: drive, and clicked the dialogue button that said,
"repair hyperlinks." Still, the "demo" hyperlinks won't work in FP preview
mode.

Although I can live with not being able to preview my hyperlink connections,
I am concerned that when I work on my new computer's version of my website
and then try to publish any changes to my real website, that I will
inadvertently destroy the actual functioning hyperlinks on my online website.
Is this a real danger? If so, how can I repair the problem? Or, can I just go
on working with what I currently have on my computer and rest assured that my
25+ pages will remain properly linked together on my website???

One further note: When I published, I chose to publish to a set of files on
my computer. This was one of the options presented. Could it be that I should
have chosen, in terms of locations to publish, the option that mentioned "to
a server that supports Front Page extensions" even though my computer is not
technically a server?

I would greatly appreciate it if you would answer in English and assume that
I don't understand acronyms.
Thanks!

Are you using Windows XP Pro? If so, it has a server, IIS5.1...did you
install it? And, WinXP Pro supports the server extensions. Did you install
them with IIS5.1?

Try using "Preview in Browser" instead of the Preview tab.

Thanks, Kevin. But I can't seem to locate that command in Front Page. How do
I find it? More important, is it OK to make changes to my local website and
then publish them to my online website, or will the hyperlinks get erased
from the online website?

Thanks, Tom. I have Windows XP, but not Pro, I think. Would you suggest that
I start again, create a new local website with a new name, and publish my
online website to that, and call it a "server that supports Front Page
extensions"? Maybe that would work. I really appreciate your help.

Hyperlinks do not work when clicked in Preview mode in FrontPage.
See http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/ for explanation and cure.

When you publish with FrontPage the links should be preserved (and it
is normally because you edited a page without the FrontPage web open
first if the links are not preserved.) Or use File->Preview in
Browser to check locally in a browser.

From the menu use File Preview in Browser and select your preferred browser
- or just use the F12 shortcut
