Production Task: split the real work (not hours) on a calendarbase???

Vit

Hi all,

here you are my situation:

I'm managing some projects on the construction field, and I have some
tasks like: Trench, Bedding, Lay pipe, Backfill...

I have inserted a custom field that tell me the amount of meter that
every task should cover...

So, for example:
TASK DURATION METERS
Trench 5d 1000
Bedding 3d 1000
Trench1 6d 1200
Backfill 2d 200

Is possible to have on a calendar base, not only the work (number of
hours of the resources), but also the daily planned production and the
actual daily production???? (just Meter divided by duration.....)

How can I solve this problem???

Thank you so much

Cheers

Ivan

Hello Ivan,

I'm not sure I follow what you mean by "on a calendar base" do you
mean to show the information in the calendar view in project?

You can certainly calculate the information you wish by using an
additional custom field and creating a formula. Assuming you have
added your Meters value to the Number1 field, insert the Number2 field
and customize the field by adding the following formula:

[Number1]/([Duration]/[Minutes Per Day])

The formula will divide the value in the number1 field by the number
of days entered in the duration field. (Duration is actually stored
in minutes hence the need to divide the number of minutes by the
definition of how many minutes are in a day.)

You could then add an additional field to hold the actual number of
meters produced and then divide that value by Actual Duration/Minutes
per day.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie,

I have already done what you have suggested to me... I was wondering
if it is possible to "split" the "daily value" on a calendar base....
as it is for the working time...

thanks again.

Hello Vit,

I'm sorry. I don't understand what you mean by " split the daily
value on a calendar base". Can you describe what you mean?

sorry Julie,

when you open a view like the "Task usage", you can see the amount of
hours that every resource shoud perform, based on every day....

I'd like to do the same with the Meters....

so every day I can know how many hours I should do and how many meters
I should do... and in the tracking phase, I'd like to insert, not only
the actual work (hours). but also tha actual meter performed every
day.....

I hope that now it make sense..

thank you so much

Hi Vit,

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry, but custom fields such as you
have created to track the meters/day requirement aren't time phased so
they can't show in the right side of the Task Usage view.

As far as tracking, you can certainly add an additional field to
record how many meters were accomplished throughout the task and
calculate the differences if any but again, not on a daily basis.

Sorry.
