Project 2003 assigning tasks

Nicole Lunardini

We currently have Project 2003 standard version and want to assign tasks to
employees through Outlook. Is there an add on that can be downloaded to do
this or will I need to upgrade to Project 2007 professional?

We are looking for the best option to assign tasks to other employees and
they can see/view them through outlook.

Thanks for your help!

Hello Nicole,

To get the full integration, you'll need Project Professional and
Project Server -- just Professional won't do.

In Project 2003 there was a workgroup add-in that could be
downloaded and installed from Microsoft's site that allowed some
integration with Outlook 2003.

You can find information on the download at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...15-1090-452C-8EBA-4025B8976C18&displaylang=en

You may also send a "scheduling note" through File > Send to > Mail
recipient (as a schedule note) without the message handler but then
the user needs to work with the email message and add to their
calendar.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

There is an add-in. Keep in mind, however, that you still need to have
licenses (CALs) for all users who access Project Server data.

Here are some rough steps for setting up Outlook integration in Project
Server 2003. Please pardon any unclear or missing steps... it's been a long
time, and I just pulled this out of some old documents!

Log on to the computer as an Administrator, open Internet Explorer, and then
log on to Project Web Access.

Click Tasks, click View and report on your tasks from your Outlook calendar,
and then click the Download Now button to download the Outlook add-in.

If your security settings prompt you to accept ActiveX controls, click Yes.

Follow the instructions to complete the installation. Close Outlook and log
off.

Open Outlook.

In the Outlook menu, select Tools > Options > Other tab.

Click Advanced Options, click COM Add-ins, and then click Add.

Navigate to <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 11.

Double-click the MPSADDIN.DLL file. Click OK four times.

On the Tools menu, click Options.

On the Project Web Access tab, select the button Enter login information.

In the Enter Login Information dialog box, enter the URL for Project Server,
and then click OK.

Click OK to close the Options dialog box. Close Outlook and log off.

Disregard my previous answer. It works only with Project Professional and
Project Server.

Julie gave the right answer.

Sorry.
