Project Count by Start Date in PA View

James

Hello,

I saw this posting on one of the NG's a while ago...

<<I have a specific requirement for a view within portfolio
analyzer, it is a Project Start/Project Finish count by
Quarter. So If I have 3 Projects that actually or are
scheduled to started in Q1, 4 in Q2, 5 in Q3 and 1 in
Q4, then I have a Bar chart that shows this. Similarly
the bar bar graph shows Projects due to finish by quarter.

Is this possible? If so would it require the use of
Outline codes or can it automatically detect a project's
start and finish and add it to a count?>>

As it happens we have exactly the same requirement, but there were no
replies to this posting, and I wondered if anyone had any ideas as to how
this could be achieved. I am thinking that it may require the use of a
formula to set the value of an field or perhaps a calculated field in a PA
view - but I'm a VBA newbie and don't know what the code would be....

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks

James

Hi,

I think the easiest answer would be to extend the cube the Portfolio
Analyzer uses for reporting. Then it's just a matter of querying the cube
from Excel to create the chart. See the Project 2002 SDK for help on
extending the cube.

Hi Rod,

You are talking to a relative newbie here in coding terms.
In simple language can you guide me through the necessary steps and actions
required to carry out your suggestion please ?

Thanks

Hi,

No coding involved. Follow the instructions in the Project 2002 SDK for
extending the project cube in Project Server. You may also be able to find
them in MSDN

Hi Rod,

That stuff looks pretty daunting. Maybe I missed something but it talks
about creating a dll file etc. Frankly I was lost fairly quickly on this ...

It may be simple to you guys - but I'm not ready for the big time.

What would it take for one of you guys to do this for me ?

Thanks

James
