Project Resource Plan

Linna

Hi,

I am trying to use Resource Plans in Project 2007 but it doesn't seem
to be working. I would allot hours to my resources on the plan but
when i click on View Assignments or View Availability, it shows that i
have no assignments and that I still have 40 hours available. I
tested with 2 contacts and 2 different projects to double check.

Here's what I did:

1. Create a project plan with 1 task "Support".
2. Click on build team, and selected 2 resources (not sure if this is
necessary)
3. Save and Publish the project plan.
4. In PWA, selected the "Support" project and created a Resource Plan.
5. For Calculate Resource Utilization From: I selected "Project
Plan" ( also tried Resource Plan) and still didn't show decreased
availability

When I assign the resource to the task in the project plan, it shows
decreased availability, it is just in the resource plan, it is not
making any changes. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Linna

In the future, please post your Project Server questions in the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is devoted to
the Microsoft Project desktop application only. To answer your question,
here's what you need to do:

1. Remove the resources from the enterprise project, as the resources are
not necessary.
2. Open the Resource Plan for editing.
3. Build your team in the Resource Plan to include the two resources whose
time you want to reserve.
4. Expand the View Options pane at the top of the data grid.
5. Set the Date Range and Column Interval values as needed.

I generally reserve resources using the Weeks or Months column intervals, as
that is much less tedious then using the Days column intervals.

6. Set the Calculate Resource Utilization From value to Resource Plan.
7. Set the Work Units value to your desired booking method.

I personally like to set the Work Units value to the Full-Time Equivalent
option. That way I can show I reserve a resource full-time by entering 1,
or reserve a resource half-time by entering .5.

8. Click the Apply button.
9. In the data grid, enter the numbers for each resource for each time
period.
10. Click the Save and Publish button.

NOTE: You MUST publish your Resource Plan before you can see the
information in the View Availability page in PWA.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the Booking Type for each resource is set to Proposed,
you will not see the Resource Plan information in the View Availability page
unless you select the "Include proposed bookings" option in the View Options
pane. Hope this helps.
