Project Server OR Windows Authentication

David

Which is the better option to use with the Project Server-
either Project Server Authentication OR Windows
Authentication? Can Project Server authentication users
access STS & OLAP without having windows authentication?
IS it necessary to create users use both the
authentication?

David.

Hi Dave,

It's been our experience that windows authentication is
the way to go if you want to access STS seemlessly.

Yes you will need to have user accounts in both.

Not sure about OLAP.

Which is the best way to go about using both
authentication.

Example: I am using Windows Authentication- it will log me
in automatically as I open the browser & type the URL. I
can access STS. When I log off web access I get the
Project Server Authentication screen. Using Project Server
Authentication I can still access STS in the same browser.
This is confusing.

From Web Access using Windows Authentication when I Open
Project in Project Professional it will log me in
automatically. The current account by default on Project
Professional should default to the account of the person
logged into Web Access. The current account is indicating
as None when I open Project Pro from Web Access using both
Windows & Project Server Authentication.

Any feedbacks will be appreciated as I am confused with
both accounts.
Is any documentation is available to describe the use of
both accounts.

Regards,
David.

IS it necessary to keep both accounts for users OR change
authentication to Windows only. I have done the
installation on a server as a local administrator. Is it
necessary to do the installation using the domain account?
Users should be able to access from extranet?
IS it necessary to keep separate URL for Intranet &
Extranet users OR same URL? Please advise.
Is any documentation available to describe the setting of
both accounts on Project Server.

David.

No, and doing so would make a mess of your data. I recommend leaving the
server set with mixed authentication, but use a few Project Server accounts
as possible

installation on a server as a local administrator. Is it necessary to do
the installation using the domain account?
In all likelihood, yes, but for a one-box implementation you can get away
with a local admin account.
Users should be able to access from extranet?
Users "can" access through an extranet if you set it up that way. You have
to decide the "should" part
IS it necessary to keep separate URL for Intranet &
Extranet users OR same URL?
Theoretically, you could have your local users access the system from the
extranet and therefore have one URL for everyone, but why would you want to
do that?
Is any documentation available to describe the setting of
both accounts on Project Server.
I don't know what you're asking for here.

David:

I strongly recommend you review the documentation on TechNet. In order to
change the accounts, you'll need to edit each resource.
