Project Task Start Date

needmshelp

When I attempt to enter a new task start date, Project ignores it and assigns
some date out in the future. I can assign a date past the date it wants to
assign the task, but not one earlier. What gives?

You probably have a Start No Earlier Than (SNET) constraint applied to the
task.
Double click the the task, pull the advanced tab, and check Constraint Type
drop down.

By the way, you should almost never be typing a date. Let project calculate
the start dates based on predecessors. If you do it this way, all your
constraint types should be "As Soon As Possible" ... that's what you normally
want to see.

Hi,

When you type in a Start date, Project interprets that as a Start No Earlier
Then constraint (NOT as a Must Start On constraint)
So when the task has a predecessor that ends after the start date you gibeve
in, the SNET constraint you ttype can never override the dependency.
Hope tis helps,
