Project tasks not same as timesheet tasks

We're running MSP 2003 & Server SP2 and I have several projects where the
tasks in the projects don't match those on the timesheet. There are tasks on
the timesheet that are not in the project. I tried Republishing Assignments
w/overwriting actuals option, Sync to Protected Actuals (even though we are
not using Managed Time Periods), even setting the resources to Proposed in
the project but nothing removes those extra tasks on the timesheet. If
resources enter time and Update these tasks the PM never sees them. The only
thing that worked so far is to delete & re-import the project, but then my
resources get confused because they see tasks that were completed but are now
new tasks! Do I have any other options?

Are these deleted task? If so, they will appear in PWA but not on the
project plan. You can not enter hours on a deleted task. You can "hide"
these task so they don't appear in PWA or you can run a script that is posted
in the form to remove the deleted task.

If it is not deleted task. There is an admin feature that can clean up
completed task from PWA. Not sure of the exact function name is.

No. These are not deleted tasks. They are a mix of current and completed
tasks.
