Prompt to save changes to Normal.dotx

Mustang

Hi there,

Since being upgraded, every time I quit Word, I am prompted to save changes
to normal.dotx but I have not made any changes other than typing.

In Word options under Advanced | Save | I do NOT have the check box on to
prompt for changes.

Any ideas?

Thanks

There are a few issues here
1. The normal template for Word 2007 is normal.dotM
2. You should have the check box checked in Word Options to prompt for
changes, otherwise it will make changes without your permission and that is
not advisable.
3. Are you using normal.dotX as a document template?
4. I seem to recall that the prompt occurs normally after daylight saving
changes are made automatically to the PC - which occurred recently. That
being the case accept the prompt and save the changes.

Sorry to revert to this point, but it really is the case that until
you've put a macro into your normal template, it's normal.dotx.

I have a relatively new and virtually unused laptop on which Office 2007 is
installed. Word hasn't been used at all. No other version of Office is on
the laptop. I just opened Word and looked at View | Macros | View Macros.
There are NO macros at all. But if I click the dropdown for "Macros in," the
listing is for "Normal.dotm." If I search for "Normal.dotm," it is found at
C://Users/Suzanne/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Templates, as expected. If I
search for Normal.dotx, it is not found.

No. It really is not.

Then why did I have a normal.dotx for my first few months of Word2007?
Why is Mustang being prompted to save changes to normal.dotx? Why does
the term "normal.dotx" even exist?

Hi all,

Thanks for you input but I am still none the wiser. Assumed didnt need a
..dotm file type if my normal didnt contain macros. Will try turning on the
check box and saying yes to the message and see what happens.

If anyone gets any further info on why it has to be dotm, can you post it up
here.

Many thanks
