PST files causing freezing

C

Colfax

using Windows ME.

I have maybe 7,000 msgs in Outlook. Spaced out among many
archive folders (jan-march 03, march-may03 etc.)

The other day I backed everything up to a PST and it did
it fine. However, now it is causing some problems when I
try to use OUtlook.

In my folders list, I can see the "Personal Folders" list
at the top, but when I try to click on it (or if I try to
import or export), the entire system freezes up. It then
takes about 3 reboots to even get Outlook to open back up.

I've tried opening it in safe mode and the same thing
happens. I can use Outlook fine more or less, but I can't
archive anymore.

System is virus free.

Any suggestions??!?!?

Check the size of the Personal Folder file if it is near or larger than 2
GB then that is your problem. Here is a link to an article that can help
you to recover data from the .pst file if it is near or has reached the 2
GB limit, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;296088.
If the .pst file is not too large then you may try to run the Scanpst.exe
utility that is also listed in the article to see if the .pst file has any
errors.

I hope this information is helpful.
