Pub 2003 Background disappears when printing as ps or pdf

I have a colored background (gradient) on my Pub 2003 file. When I convert it
to ps or pdf the background disappears. Any ideas on how to keep the
background?

Is the gradient on the Master Page? Are you sure you don't have ignore Master
Page checked? Are you using Acrobat? I have the same result with the .ps
extension, but the gradient is okay with the PDF printer.
