Publish web from two computers

Is it "reasonable" to publish a web from two computers? What I'm thinking
about is having one "section" of our web administered 100% from one
computer, and having the rest of the web administered from another computer.
In this way there would be a clean division of responsibilities.

I'm worried that it might be very easy to over-write changes made to the
"other" section. What are some of the safe-guards I should consider? Is
there something like a "sub-web?"
