publisher 2.0

Steve

My windows 98 se pc just died and so I bought a new one....i installed
publisher 2.0 on it and it will not open files that I created with that very
program. I get a message stating that "cannot open other versions files". I
can't use my old pc and the publisher files on the floppy are very important.
I know the version of publisher that I have is very old. What can i do to
see those files?

First copy the files to your hard drive.
Disable your virus software, or if you have Norton, disable script blocking and in
Norton options, misc. clear Office Plug-ins.
Changing capability could make a difference. Right-click the Publisher program icon,
properties, capability tab.

I assume your new Operating System is Windows XP. Norton is a ant-virus program which
may have been bundled with your new computer. If it is on your computer the icon is
on your systray, the same place you see the time and date. Right-click the icon,
click open, "script blocking" will be on the opening screen, click on it, click
disable. Above is a link, Options (Next to "Live Update"), click it, on the left pane
click Miscellaneous, clear Enable Office Plug-in.
If you have any other anti-virus software, simply disable it until you open and
re-save your files.

When I right click Norton antivirus in the sys ttary there is nothing about
scripting at all......it is norton 2003 and the operating system is win xp.

everything else you have suggested to no avail. The pc is not brand
new.....but relatively new. I am aty my wits end.

Steve this is all very simple and painless.
UNINSTALL the garbage trash junk rubbish Norton and buy a decent AV program
Copy all your Publisher files from the floppy discs to your hard drive prior
to attempting opening them.
You cannot open or save successfully Publisher files to a removable disc,
and especially a floppy.

I finally resorted to uninstalling my norton vp and still files would not
open. It just seems like the norton asnswer is not correct...would buying a
new version publisher allow me to get to those files?

You did move the files to your hard drive, right?
Can you send me one of the files? I will see if I can open it with a later version.
Hypothetically Publisher 95 on up should open the 2.0 files.
