Publisher and Adobe Acrobat

Adobe hasn't been able to help me ... indicating it is a Publisher problem
I'm having. I can create .PDF files from most Publisher documents, as well
as other file formats. I have a couple Publisher files sent to me that I
cannot convert to .PDF. I have been assured others are able to convert
these files. The message I get is:

%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: xshow ]%%

Stack:
-153
-mark-

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you...

Since you are running Publisher 2007...
why not try the MS Office PDF Add-in:

Have a look at the following articles.

Thanks so much John. I reviewed the links and don't think this is what I'm
looking for at this time. I would like to resolve the present problem
before I add something new. I've been spending time in Micosoft''s Help and
Support and it's not very helpful at all.

You're welcome. Not sure why you don't
wish to try the add-in...the purpose of it
is to create .pdf files from within MS Office
2007 software.

Could you request that the documents you
cannot convert to .pdf be resent to you?
Maybe there is some corruption.

And...if others can convert them...maybe they
could send you the converted .pdf copies.

Also...have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling
Adobe and Publisher?

I'm having trouble on a new computer and past experiences have me erring on
the side of caution. I have another computer and can convert, so I do have
the .pdf documents that I need. It's just that I want my new PC to do the
job.

Your help, links, suggestions ... time and trouble are very much
appreciated.

I can certainly understand
"erring on the side of caution".

Good luck finding a fix.

Then the problem is probably specific to the documents, not directly
with Publisher.

Look for high-resolution images; some overly-large images can cause
problems with Distiller.
I have been assured
others are able to convert these files.

Have they said which product they were using to convert them? There are
many third-party PDF programs, in addition to Adobe's, not to mention
Publisher's built-in capability.

I don't see your logic here. The problem seems to be an incompatibility
between some element of the document and Distiller; a workaround would
be to use a different PDF solution. If the present problem were
resolved, you wouldn't need this solution anyway (although it would
still be desirable; Adobe's add-in is a monstrosity).
I've been spending time in
Micosoft''s Help and Support and it's not very helpful at all.

The error is being produced by Distiller; I can't see how Microsoft's
Help and Support could possibly give any helpful information.

Thanks Ed. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (CS4) installed on two computers, one
running Vista, the other XP. I can use the very same software (version) and
convert the .pdf documents on my XP machine but not on the (new) one running
Vista.

I thought Adobe would be the proper place to seek support ... they requested
the actual .pub document and they were able to convert. So, with this in
mind they point the finger at Publisher. So, here I am caught in a catch-22
and I hate to do anything too drastic but also hate to 'let a sleeping dog
lie' if you know what I mean, in fear that I'll have bigger problems down
the line.

Best,
LinK

Sorry, correction
I meant .pub documents (not .pdf.). The .pub files were sent to me but not
created in my Publisher (2007) version.

....they point the finger at Publisher, in spite of the fact that they
will also have used Publisher for the same task.

The problem is evidently somewhere in between the document and your
computer's setup. Whether that is Adobe or Publisher is anyone's guess.
Such problems are notoriously impossible to solve; they normally end up
either being worked around, lived with, or solved by a complete reformat
and reinstall.

Of course, the difficulty of troubleshooting means that companies are
extremely unwilling to do it, so will claim that the responsibility lies
with the other involved vendor wherever they possibly can. (Hardware
driver manufacturers are the worst for this.)

Thanks Ed. In this case, 'lived with' will be my choice ... all the while
hoping I won't encounter additional problems down the road.

Thanks for your comments.
