Publisher cannot open files saved by a previous version

I have a Gate Way I purchased in 2001. It had MS Publisher 2000 on it.
Somehow I lost the program and cannot get it back even with the original CD s
that came with the computer. I bought a new Dell with Publisher 2006 on it. I
cannot open any previous Publisher files I have saved My question is, I have
purchased Publisher 95, and 98 but I cannot open the files I already have
saved with the 2000 software. I get a message that reads’ “Cannot open files
from another version.â€
Is there a way I can open a file saved with Publisher 2000 using another
version?
