Publishing on the Web

Michael Schaap

Hello there. My name is Michael and I'm having a challenge with Publishing
my web page on the Web.

Here is what is happening. I am currently using Yahoo Geocities and
uploaded my web pages. I go to view the Index, my first page, and it comes
up well (outside of the graphics that I have not uploaded yet). So I click
on one of the links on the side bar and down on the lower left corner (where
the 'done' is) I see the correct page listed, but the webpage blanks out. I
look up at the address and it still shows the address of the 'index' page.
If I go to the address and manually type the next page that should have been
linked to it will send me there....

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Here is a link to the first page:

Hey Michael-

Was viewing your site. Looked fine. Just takes a couple of sec's for the
images to load. I think you must've fixed it, yes?

Well, except that while viewing, you site suddenly went down. Probably
working on it? There was an error I was getting ready to email you, but now
can't see the site. Something with the word "Thing" Like "Thing that I do"
in singular instead of plural. First page.

Really cute site. Very nice for your first attempt. Good luck w/this.

Thank you. Did not know that it was fixed. I did not do anything other then
upload some more pictures. Now it says that my "data transfer limit has been
exceeded". Its a free site from geocities and I might have to start paying
for it monthly. Just startting to get the business back up and running and
never had a web page for it so I thought it would do... perhaps not.

thanks again and I'll check back with it to see if the problem was fixed.

No problem. Bummer about the space.

Did you know you can get a free website from Microsoft Live? Go here:
http://office.live.com/

Read about the Office Live Small Business website. It's free and easy to
use. I believe the free version now allows you to use your own images in the
header as well. You won't have that type of file limitation that you do now.

You WILL need to use their templates, but as I mentioned, you an use your
images to personalize them. Also, you won't have that "geocities" header
thing on the side -- so that would be nice.

Try it - I've had one of my sites thru them for several mo's now as just a
test and except for some little problems in the beginning, it works really
well for website noobs! ;-)

You need to change your links in your navbar to absolute links vs. relative
links.

First go to your website. Mouseover each link in your navbar, and make note
of the page name in the status bar. For example your second page "A little
about me" is "index_Page953.htm". You can also determine what Publisher is
going to name each page by doing a web page preview on your computer and
looking in the address field. Or you can at some point use a custom name for
each page.

Then open you Pub file > select you navbar > go to Format > Navigation Bar
Properties. On that dialog select your home page link > modify link. This
brings up another dialog, Modify Link - Main Navigation Bar. On the left
column under "Link to:" change from "Place in this document" to "Existing
File or Web page", then copy and paste the absolute link in for the home
page in the address field:
http://www.geocities.com/micisa_enterprises/index.htm
Click OK. Then go back to the Navigation bar properties dialog, and select
your second link "A little about me" > Modify link, and change that link to:
http://www.geocities.com/micisa_enterprises/index_Page953.htm
Modify each page link, and republish your site after deleting all your old
files off the host server.

If you use a paid host that goes directly to your domain, you won't have to
do this. You can use the relative links.

If you have more questions about Publisher webs, then post in the web group
and we will try to help you there:
