[PWA 2007] Resources(Project Member) cant view their tasks?

K

Kuku

I just want all my team member able to view their own tasks in "My Task" and
update their progress accordingly.

Everytime after I (Project manager) publish the project to server, only me
myself able to import and view those tasks which already assigned to my team
member in "My Task". All team member only able to import(add line) to their
timesheet but not "My Task". Thus, I had to ask each of them about their
progress and update it myself.

Is there anyway for each team member to update their own progress?

Check that the "default assignment owner" for each of your team members is
set to themselves.

This is an attribute of the resource and can be changed from server
settings/manage users.

Kuku, as MZ Projects suggest, you can set up the "default assignemnt owner"
when creating or editing a resource in PWA.

Just to add to this functionality (I hope I am not making it more
complicated), you can assign the assignement owner of a resource per
project, by going Project Pro > go to the resource usage view, include the
Assignemnt owner to the view and you can overwrite the default assignment
owner (especially interesting for material resources etc).
Hope this helps

Hi, Thanks. This really help.

Besides, is there any documention state the detail like this?

Again, thanks.

OK, I edited the View to include the resource owner. Now I can click on the
filed and change it to the resource who is assigned the task. THERE has got
to be a better way to do this so when resources are assigned, the default
assignment owner is the person assinged not the PM. Changing each individual
task is combersome. Is there a way to configure the software? Why can you
change the field data in the resource view and not in the Gant Chart view?
Correct me if I am wrong but the email notifications go to the assignment
owner not the resource assigned, correct?

B

Brad Harris

When you are assigning new team members to PWA, Is there a get the new team
member assignment owner to default to them VS going in and changing it one by
one? Or is there a way to get the assignment owner to be assigned to them
iall at once VS one by one?

B

Brad Harris

I apologize for answering my own posts but I know others willl struggle with
this. I added some users to My active directory PM group yesterday. I
anticipated them being available to add to a project this morning but the
scheduled active directory must not have worked. So, I forced it to sync.
Now here this, those users had their Assignment Owner default as them selves.
Terrific, how did that happen? Wil it happen again?? The other team
members have blank assignment owners.

Brad Harris

Gary, I am not sure If I am communicating this clearly based on my
interpitation of your response. I know how to edit the user resource in PWA
serversettings and make the defaut assignment owner the resource. Can these
changes be done all at one time? Can I set some configuration so that any
new user I add gets this setting default to his name instead of blank??

Brad:

The best way to do this is to select all the resources in question and open
them to edit sequentially in Project Web Access. You have to do each
resource individually, but the system at least opens each one in succession
after you edit each one. The blank default assignment owner problem occurs
when you create resources by importing them. This is a know bug in th system
which I expect will be fixed in SP1.

Gary,

In your response to this thread you said: "existing assignments need to be
changed one at a time". What way do you recommend changing numerous existing
assignments (tasks).?

I'd like to assign tasks to my resources and would like to have them update on their tasks. Hence I have to set both the "Resource Name" and the "Assignment Owner" to the resource's name.

However, how can I see my reource's assignments in the PWA to keep track among different projects? They only appear there if I'm the assignment owner.

You need to add the assignment owner column to an assignment view in
Project, and change them there

Hi Markus,

does following show you what you need?
Resource Center -> Actions -> Select resources. Click on 'View
Availabilty', modify Date range and units if needed. In the table you
will find all required information as resource, project, availabilty,
capacity, work, .... In Actions you can export that table to Excel ...

Barbara

I agree with Andrew and Barbara, With many of my functional managers
having resources allocated across multiple enterprise projects/
programs, the easiest overall view is to let them access the resource
center to view their team's tasks and availability. I'm using the
RBS, so the functional manager's views are filtered down to a
reasonable size (we have many resources), but this also gives them a
great tool for doing cross-project load balancing among their
resources.

Gregg
