Read error when saving Excel object in Publisher 2003

I am using Publisher 2003 to create a document that has several Excel 2000
embedded objects. Things were going fine but one day I started getting an
error when I try to change anything on any of the Excel objects. I can open
the Excel object directly from Excel just fine. The errors vary from a "read
error" to Publisher hanging-up to not being able to save.

My system is running Win2k.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
DC

Mary, thanks for your note. My security level is set at medium since we (our
company) use many files that run macros. I had up to SP4 installed but as I
was trying to troubleshoot this problem with my (company's) IT helpdesk, they
told me that SP4 creates many problems and they told me to uninstall it --
neither my IT helpdesk nor uninstalling SP4 helped.

As for the exact error message, there are several problems and not all of
them have error messages (eg, sometimes Publisher just freezes). I tried
using the file again to try to generate the error message, and wouldn't you
know it, today it isn't giving me a problem. The problem is intermittent and
today it's decided not to act up, but the problem is definitely still there.

Any other thoughts about what the problem could be?

Spoke too soon, the error has surfaced. Here it is:

****
Microsoft Excel - Application Error
The instruction at "0x300619d0" referenced memory at "0x0034025b". The
memory could not be "read." Click OK to terminate the program, or CANCEL to
debug.
****

When I press CANCEL to try to debug, I get another error message saying that
Excel has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.

This error is indicative of a driver failure, could be your printer or your video
driver. Publisher is more critical about printer drivers, you might want to look at
the manufacturer's web site to see if there is an updated driver available. The same
advice goes for your graphics driver too.
