Reasons for Project not leveling?

Please help: Working in a 1000 activities proyect composed of several sub
proyect indented (copy and paste), the program was not leveling. In search
for an answer I have created a blank project where I created two tasks
shearin a single resource... does not level too! what happens? can anyone
help? How can I attach here the project itself?

Hi Gustavo,

If your leveling calculation is set to manual, you need to click the Level
Now button to level resources, not the okay button. Have you been clicking
the Level Now button?

happens! I wonder if I have to reinstall de program...

Hi Gustavo, nice "talking" with you as well. If you have been using the
"Level Now" button and project is still not leveling even a simple file, then
it does sound as though there may be a problem with the Project Program. I
would try Help > Detect and Repair and if that doesn't work, yes, I reinstall
may be needed.

I like to confess my great thanksfull feelings for your propt support.
Searching at the group questions/answers I also read "paste links can easily
become corrupt...". Because I have beig personalizing from a base project
(copying and paste, not a template) to make several projects wish then I
personalize, it is quite possible that the whole thing became corrupted. I
will reinstall project and report back results. Funny anyhow that the program
could became corrupted as a result of an aplication...
Myself: I´m am mechanical engineer from Chile. Have lived in Brasil, rep. of
Soth Africa (gave two of my tree girls) and Australia. I have also travelled
almost all over USA -beutifull people/country.
I am strugling with my limited computers Knowledge. As an independent
consultant, I am trying to assist enterprises, particularlly small
businesses, to manage better using MSProject (ISO maintenance as well). To do
this and in order to transmit the principles, I have developed a 3D dinamical
PPT model (SIGE) whish I gould very much like to send it for your comments. I
have exposed SIGE -and received giood feed backs- in international
conferences and forums, also to some PMI snr. consultants and universities in
Chile and the States. Todate I am leading a team to further develop SIGE to

I reinstalled MSproject and the problem continue... what should I do? any

I have reinstalled Project and Office and still project does not level in
the most simple situation -two activities, one resource , no constrains,
links of any tipe... NOTHING. I do not know what oder things does not do
either. Whould my copy be replaced? should I reinstall windows? What could be
causing this whish has created so many problems?

Hi Gustavo,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm not sure what can be causing the
problem. If you have reinstalled Project and still cannot level, I have
only two suggestions:

1. With Project closed (not running) - search for Global.MPT on your
computer. Delete all copies. Restart Project and it should recreate
the Global.MPT file.

2. Create a new project file. Add two tasks both starting at the same
time (project start date). Create one resource with a maximum unit of
100% and assign the resource to both tasks. Switch to the Resource
Sheet - is the resource's name in red showing overallocation? Then,
please step through leveling and post each step you are taking here.
We'll see if there is something missing and try to guide you further.
