receiving email twice after using synchronize .pst-file with brief

I synchronize Outlook on my laptop and desktop with briefcase (.pst file) to
update my laptop and vice versa. After I've done that and I execute a
send/receive I
receive the email in my mailbox for the second time. Is there a way to stop
this so only the new email is received?
