Recovering Publisher 95 file

I have some old Publisher 95 files I need to recover; I've dug out my
old CD and installed it on a Win XP box, but though it shows preview
images correctly, it claims that "Publisher cannot load files from a
different version" when I try to open the files. I created a new pub
file to compare with, and both it and the old ones contain "Microsoft
Publisher 3.0" when viewed in notepad, so version shouldn't be a
problem. Could it be something to do with the Windows version? A
corrupted file seems unlikely, since the same problem affects several
files. Anyone have any advice?

Try the compatibility tab. Right-click the Publisher 95 icon, properties,
compatibility.

Can you send me one of your 95 files?

Hmmm... could the problem be due to the files using a font that doesn't
exist on my current system? I've manually re-created the file I needed
urgently, but couldn't find an exact match for the original font.
