Refresh rate in Gantt view

I'm working in Project 2007. As I'm making changes, I'm constantly (almost)
getting hammered by the Gantt chart getting refreshed, which takes a few
seconds even for a small file. Is there a way to turn this off (change to a
manual refresh) or otherwise change the refresh rate? Thanks.

Go to tools menu / options / calculation tab and set to manual calculation.
You can always hit the F9 key to recalculate.

Hi -
I tried that and it doesn't change anything. The Gantt chart still
refreshes as soon as I either add a new task or change an existing one. Any
other ideas?

Another data point. When I slide the chart bar all the way over to the
right, so the chart isn't viewable, then I don't have the problem.

Hi Jim,

A couple of suggestions.

Switch to the Task Sheet View which does not display the Gantt chart
on the right side. Show the Gantt chart only when you wish to view
it.

Turn off Change Highlighting (View menu).

I don't know of any way to keep the Gantt chart from showing graphic
changes when you add new tasks or alter existing.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I switched to the Task Sheet view and that helps. Still not perfect but much
improved. I also checked the other suggestions (automatic leveling - off,
Change highlighting - off) and they had minimal impact so I left them as they
were. So, for now I can proceed with entering/changing my data. Thanks to
all for your help.

You're welcome Jim and thanks for the feedback. Glad to know the
Task Sheet view is an improvement.
