reinstalled WindowsME and Office isn't working correctly

I had to reinstall my WindowsME operating system and had
trouble with it reinstalling so I had to install it as
WINDOWS1 rather than Windows. The computer boots and runs
great, but I found that after reinstalling Office 2000
Premium, when I click the Word icon (or any other office
icon that I have placed on the desktop) I get the
messages : Preparing to install Office 2000, followed by
the message: Please wait while Windows configures
Microsoft Office 2000. Word eventually comes up and
works. If I click on a saved document icon, I have the
same result (with the messages and the reinstallation and
configuring). In the later case, it does not
automatically open the document (you have to do a search
for the document) but opens the program only. What do I
need to do to make the newly installed Office 2000 Premium
see that I am running my computer from Windows1 nor
Windows?

If you installed into windows1 then it would appear that you have two
installs of win* on yr sys.
You might want to address this issue, before moving on to others.
Perhaps you might wish to post to a winme ng to clarify the win install
issue, first.

I posted on the ME forum. They shamed me. I guess I
should try reinstalling it into the Windows folder, but it
still seems like there would be easy correction for my
Office problem. Thanks.

If you have corrected the win* problem, ie you now only have a single win
folder, you will likely have to reinstall Office or try a repair.
Have never used winme, but this msg is often given when a user other than
the one whose logon was used in the install of office, uses office.
