Remaining Duration

Hi All :)

I know I'm doing something wrong but I can't spot it - it's driving me nuts!!!

I have tasks that are in progress with actual start dates & % completes
filled in. However, where these are behind schedule (ie behind the new status
date) the remaining duration is calculated from the progress point (ie the
complete through date) not the status date. Basically I want it to show a
task with three weeks remaining from the status date, not 6 weeks from the
progress point which is 4 weeks behind the status date so only shows a bar
two weeks beyond the status date.

I guess this is something to do with a switch on the tools/options menu but
I've tried all the combinations and none seem to make any difference.

Please can you help !!!!

Hi :)

Is this some kind of record - I've answered my own post !!! (within the hour)

I've found that all my tasks were 'fixed duration' - if I change them to
'fixed units' it seems to work (ie the remaining duration seems to react as I
expected - I specify a number of weeks from the new status date, reschedule
the work and it all looks ticka-te-boo). Hooray !!

...or am I missing something ???

Cheers !

Nice try but you are missing something.
The Remaining Duration is always just Duration (Total) - Actual Duration
Or
Actual + Remaining = Total

They have, or should have, nothing to do with the status date or the Task
Type
If you have a task which has an actual start and some % Complete with some
unused duration to the left of the SD you need to re-schedule remaining to
move the unused part to the task to the right of the SD ie into the future.
The task will split.
There is an issue (bug) where the duration is measured over the entire span
of a split task for one of the task types, I forget which one but we know
about this.

Try getting on top of it, ie recording the actual and moving the remainder
to the right of the SD with the buttons on the tracking toolbar, with the
default type fixed units. then make two more tasks of the other two types
and try the same thing.

Avoid typing in % complete. much better to type in actual D.

My answer is incoherent.
It's late, I'm tired, I'll check it later. Good night.
