remove windows messenger from tool bar bottom left@start up. how?

i have windows messenger showing in my tool bar on the bottom left. I don't
want it to start or show up unless i want it too. How do I shut this off?

*Windows* Messenger is *not*, nor has ever been, part of Office. As to how
you get rid of it, STFW, this is most definitely an FAQ.

As already stated, you are in the wrong newsgroup for this topic.. but as
you are here.........

Open Outlook Express.. go to TOOLS - OPTIONS.. uncheck the box
'automatically log on to Windows Messenger'..

To get the most out of the newsgroups, try to select a group that most
closely matches the type of program or scenario for which you require an
answer.. you can imagine how difficult it would be for you and us if one had
to look through thousands of posts covering eighty product groups and all of
the problems that can be encountered..
