Front page doesn't seem to recognize the index.html page as the home page
even though the navigation view shows index.html as the single highest
level.

Is there a way to delete the index.html page and then replace it in order to
get FP to recognize that it is the home page?

TIA

Go to the help files at your provider and see what name order they
prefer be on the main page. Then renaming should solve your problem.
Mine works better as index.htm

Thanks I'll give that a try.

Front Page defaulted the home page to default.htm and my service provider
preferred index.html, so I renamed it in the folder view to index.html and
the navigation view
removed the home page icon from the home page.

This is like it was when I was having problems.

Is there some setting that says the home page must me named default.htm??

TIA

This should work.
Rename a file or folder
When you rename a file or folder in a web using this procedure,
Microsoft FrontPage automatically repairs any hyperlinks to or from
the renamed file (or files in the renamed folder).

1.. In the Folder List, right-click the file or folder you want to
rename, and then click Rename on the shortcut menu.
2.. Type a new name for the file or folder.
Notes

a.. When renaming a file, be careful not to change or omit the file
extension unintentionally (for example, from Index.htm to Index.asp).
Changing or omitting the extension of a file might render the file
unusable.
b.. If you rename a file or folder using Windows Explorer,
hyperlinks to and from that file (or files in that folder) will not be
repaired automatically. You should always use the procedure above when
renaming files or folders in a web.
