Reporting effort >planned effort and not 100% completed

Hello,

Here is the example. Let's say you have a task estimated to take 80 hrs with
a resource at 70% load (duration is then 14.3 days)
After 13 days, the resource is reporting 90 hours of work and the task is
not yet completed (and an estimated 10 extra hours will be needed)...
When reporting these 90 hours, MSPRO is automatically setting the task to
completed, ho w do I prevent this behavior?

Thanks

You need to change the Remaining Work from 0h to 10h. Click View - Table -
Work to see the Remaining Work hours. Hope this helps.

Ok,
By entering the remaining work, I have the % completed adapting to the given
data and logically my task duration has increased (It is an effort based
task).

Now let's say that a resource (allocated 50%, 8 hrs/day at 100%) is planned
to work on an 80 hrs task, it will take 20 days to complete.

After 15 days (status date), the person already reports 80 hours and 20 hrs
more to complete. In the tracking gantt Char, MSPRO provides me with a "new
duration" and final date.
I was thinking that the tasks would be expected to complete on time (at time
of status, there is 20 hours to produce within 20-15=5 remaining days); and
with overall effort greater than expected.
Did I miss sometihing ?

Thanks for your help,

The method of tracking you are using does not generate the date precision
you are seeking. If you entered progress for the resource on a DAILY basis
in the timephased grid in either the Task Usage or Resource Usage view, your
assumptions would be correct. But by merely entered Actual Work as a lump
sum in the Actual Work field, you do not get the level of date precision you
expect. Hope this helps.
