Reports exporting data to Word/Excel templates?

My main question is whether or not this would even be possible, I'm using
Office 2003. I have a few different Word and Excel templates that I would
like to be filled out with data from my database.

In the word document, there is a table at the top that serves as a header
for the document, and I'd like the fields of this table to be filled with
data from various specific fields from tables in my database. Would it be
possible to create a report that would take that template file, fill in the
data in the appropriate fields, and then save it as a new file?

I have similar desires for my Excel templates. I would like certain cells
to be populated with data from certain fields from tables in my database.
The only catch here might be that I'd need there to be more lines added
depending on how many records there are.

I have some people to lean on in terms of the specifics of VB coding, I was
just looking for some general guidance on the feasibility of these ideas.
