Resource Assignment with Partial Day Assignment

Hi,

I have a question regarding resource assignment and allocation. If I have
two developers and I want "Developer 1" to work on "task A" from 12/1/2005 to
12/3/2005 and I want "Developer 2" to work on the task from 12/2/2005 to
12/3/2005, is there any way to store that or do I have to enter 2 tasks for
each resource? I have tried using percentages but the percentages assume
equal distribution across all three days which results in developer 2 being
overallocated on day 1 (12/1/2005) when I have that developer assigned to
another task.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

TIA,

Two ways of doing this:
1) Select View, Task Usage and edit the hours per day for the assignments.
Set the first two days of the assignment to zero for Developer 2.

2) In the Gantt Chart select Window, Split then click in the lower pane to
make it active.
Select Format, Details, Resource Schedule
This lets you set a delay for Developer 2 so it starts a set time after the
start of the task.

Hi DMM,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Window/Split, right click in the bottom pane and select Resource Schedule.
In here you can enter all the resource data including a Delay before the
resource is required.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Great! Thanks! How do I handle the predecessor part of this problem?

Let's say Developer 1 will work on task A from 12/1/2005 - 12/3/2005 and
Developer 2 will work on Task A on 12/1/2005 only. For Task B which
Developer 2 will start work on on 12/2/2005 can I use Task A as a predecessor
somehow? Or can there be no predecessor for Task B?

Thanks again,
Devon
