Resource availability

Environment: Project Server 2007, Project Pro, Enterprise resources,
Multiple projects
When one resource becomes over located manager can see that through pwa
resource center. With that in mind manager can level resources based on
certain criteria.
Here is my question:
In new project when manager wants to assign resource (work) to some tasks he
doesn't know that source availability. Shouldn't there be an option to see
if particular assignment would cause that resource to become over located
and to see that immediately in process of assigning resources? In that way
proactive assignment would take place, not just reactive. Maybe there is a
way to do this but I'm not aware of it.

Hello Marko,

In project pro you can show existing resource assignments in the
Resource Usage view. You can also use the "graph" button in the
Assign Resources dialog box to view work, assignment work, and
remaining availability.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

That's similar to PWA.
It would be great that Project alerts manager that resource he is trying to
assign on a task is busy on period that task is supposed to be done.
Currently manager needs to take care of that himself before he assigns
resources.

Hi Marko,

Sorry, I can't speak to PWA. I agree that on one level it would be
nice to be alerted in some way, however on the majority of the
projects that I have worked on -- lack of resources is a chronic
problem -- so after awhile, I would find the alert irritating :)
