Resource Pool question

Table entry has all of the salaries in however going to cost or any other
view the figures are not there. What needs to happen for the figures to be
populated?

Hello Karen,

I'm not sure I follow your question so let me ask a question or two to
clarify.

You've added Resources to the Resource pool file and on the Entry table
applied to the Resource Sheet you have entered standard rates for the
resources.

When you apply the Cost table to the Resource sheet, you are not seeing
any costs? Have you assigned the resources to any tasks?

The Cost field shows the projected costs for resources based upon the
amount of work the resource is scheduled to perform. If you have not
assigned resources to tasks, no work is assigned therefore no costs.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Okay, so one possible cause is eliminated :)

I am unable to reproduce what you report, so perhaps a bit more
information from you would help us narrow it down rather than me
guessing all possible causes. To that end can you give a bit more
information?
What version of Project?
Is your calculation set to automatic?
Have you used a diferent rate table for assignments?
When you look at the resource usage view, you see assignments?
You see no information in the Cost field applied to the resource sheet
or are just some fields zero.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

What's a good reference book? The ones I have are not very useful. Thanks.

Karen,

Based on the information you have provided, I cannot give a logical
reason why you are not seeing cost information. If this is a relatively
new problem -- you have been able to see costs in the past but now
suddenly do not, I would suspect a corruption in the resource pool file.
I suggest disconnecting each sharer file, recreating the pool file and
reconnecting.

It's tough to recommend a "good" book that would be better than the ones
you have as I don't know which ones you have. I am a fan of the Que
series books "Using Microsoft Project....".

Nope, not new as in worked before... Still trying to get things working
period! :)

I can still try what you suggested if I understood what it meant...
My experience with Project has not been very successful. :-(

Both. Project Professional & Server. unless that is considered redundant in
the community... And yes to the web site. Pooh. Sounds like I'm just stuck.

Hi Karen,

The news that you are using Project Server is of significance! I have
been assuming all along that you are using a resource pool file (*.mpp)
not project server.

I am not by any means an expert on Project Server, but I would assume
that there may be something you may have missed in the setup of the
Enterprise Resource pool, the assignment, or possibly the publishing of
the data to the server.

To the best of my knowledge, when using Project Server you use an
enterprise resource pool ( resources reside on Project Server) not a
resource pool file.

I suggest posting your question along with the details to the Project
Server newsgroup, not the Project General newsgroup. Although many of
the "server gurus" do visit this site as well, their primary focus is
the server newsgroup and you are more likely to get an answer there.

I strongly suggest posting all of the relevant information:

Project Server 2003 plus service pack information
How you are created the resource pool -- it is the enterprise pool or a
separate project file (mpp).
Please give the folks on the server newsgroup detailed information about
what you have done so far (i.e. you've assigned and published, you've
only assigned, etc.)

I believe that someone on the server newsgroup is going to be able to
better assist than I will.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

The problem started in Professional which is why I started in this group, but
I'll post to the other as well. Thanks.

Hi Karen,

You're welcome for the assistance.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "the problem started in
Professional". You certainly can use Project Professional not connected
to a Project Server (I do) but how things work particularly when
Enterprise Resources are involved is quite different when working in the
Project Server environment than with Project not connected to a server.

So, if you are using Project Professional connected to a Project Server
and are using the Server features such as an Enterprise Resource Pool,
it is best to post to the server newsgroup. If you were using Project
Professional not connecting to a Project server or Project Standard,
this is the best group.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
