Resource time reporting

Amy

Hello,

I am a project manager looking into purchasing MS Project. We currently use
a different software and are having problems with it. I was wondering how
resources update their time? Is there a time management tool or do they do
this right in the schedules? Are your resources satisfied with this tool?

Thanks!!!

Hello Amy,

If you are having difficulties with resource time reporting, I suggest
that you explore Project Server's capabilities instead of just looking
at Project. To get you started:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project/FX101757931033.aspx

If you have specific questions about the capabilities of Project,
Project Server, and Project Web Access (the resource portal), try
posting to the Project Server newsgroup.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure if I understood you correctly, as
I'm not using Microsoft Project right now. (I am on a software called PS8).
So in Microsoft Project there is no way for resources to update their time in
the system? I gather from the information you provided and a little digging
I've done, that I will have to purchase Office Project Web Access 2007 which
has a time reporting feature....is this correct?

Thanks for the help!!!!

Hello Amy,

You're welcome for the information and thanks for the feedback.

The timesheet reporting available for resources is a feature of the
Enterprise Project Management (EPM) installation consisting of
Project Web Access (PWA), Project Server, and Project Professional. As
such, it is not just a one product purchase.

In addition to reviewing the information on Microsoft's site about EPM
using Project, see the companion products page on the following site:

http://project.mvps.org/

The Companion Products page is a list of non-Microsoft products that
work with MS Project. Depending upon your needs (and budget) you may
find an alternative to the full EPM installation if all you need is
timesheet reporting.

If you have specific questions about EPM using MS Project, try posting
to the Project Server newsgroup. I don't personally use server, so I
can only reply in generalities. The "server gurus" are in higher
concentration at the Project Server newsgroup.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
