Resources charge per task

Hello,

I'm using MS Project 2007 for analysis, not for planning. So I want to ask
how can I automatically calculate resource charge/ task (human resources)
given the fact that in case of multitasking, the resource should be allocated
equally per task (with a percentage)?

Basically, I have a resource that had 2 tasks which at some point overlap
each other. The resource worked on task 1 for 3 days, on both tasks for 2
days (50-50) and on the second for 10 days. Overall, Task 1 required 4 days
and task 2 - 9 days. How can I calculate the same for much more complex
situations? (more resources, much more tasks/resource)

Thank you,

Hi VDU,

I'm afraid Project has an IQ of zero and is very unlikely to be able to
think this out! It's all very well giving the example you did, but what
happens if Task 1 is delayed by a few minutes/hours/days... Project would
be in continuous calculation mode producing an ever-changing schedule. It is
for you to allocate resources as you see fit. I believe you're complicating
the issue by trying to manage parallel tasks. Beware of over-managing the
work - give the resource the 3 tasks, assign a duration and let them sort
out their work load. Why can't you finish one before going on to the next?
Project can handle that so simply with its levelling routine.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

If you're only interested in what has been done, then just enter the hours
into the Task or Resource Usage view. Right-click in the cells on the right
and select Actual Work.
