Resources

I am developing a Programme Plan with 50+ projects each providing resource
and schedule information. I am trying to use project to display this
information in Ghant Chart and Resource Tables. Unfortunately as we replan
the schedule, the resource allocations automatically update to the new dates
(good!) but change the values (bad!) as we rely on the PMs providing the new
information regarding resources. Is it possible to shift the resource
allocations month by month without adjusting the values? Probably a stupid
question, but any assistance appreciated.

Hi,

Could it be your tasks are of fixed duration type?
Fixed unit tasks will not recalculate units
It is units, isn't it? When you say "the values" I have to guess what you
mean..

There are 5 ways to identify tasks to Project. Fixed Units, Fixed Work,
Fixed Duration. Of these, Fixed Units and Fixed Duration can be toggled as
"Effort Drvien"

In order to retain a fixed work or duration, you need to select the
appropriate values from the task info tab. Specifically, adding resources to
a task that has fiext duration will not alter the duration while increasing
the amount of work necessary to complete the task (unless you change the
resource allocation pecentage in the Task Info view)

Hi thanks for these responses, I meant the amount of time each resource is
allocated (which we put in manually in line with Project Managers
spreadsheets) changes every time you shift the start and finish dates. Is it
possible to fix the amount of resource effort to make it a manual update?

Is this what you meant by fixed units?

Hi,

"The amount of time..."
Is this elapsed time ("Duration")?
Is it man-days ("Work")?

Duration BY DEFINITION will change when you chqnge start and finish since it
is defined as the number of woirking days between the two.

Work OTOH can be fixed: set task type to Fixed Work.
