Save As: on 98 machine.

One of our clients is having an issue with saving files from an XP machine
running Office 2003, onto a 98 machine.

The issue is that when you open a file from the 98 machine, across the
network, and then go to save it back to the server as a new name, it comes up
with an error saying that the drive name is invalid, or that you have put a /
in the file name. (Which it obviously doesn’t)

When I was testing it today, I noticed the following things:

*It seems to only happen when using office 2003 to save
*only happens when going "save as" from an XP machine to a 98 machine, I
tried to save to the other 98 machine too, with the same result.
*saves fine if the file is copied from any machine to any other machine
(outside of office programs)
*saves fine if "save as" is tried not using office (tried using notepad)

From this, it seems as if it is only a problem when office 2003 on windows
XP is used to access and re-save documents across a network, located on a 98
machine.

It is possible that these documents were created using office 2000, but I’m
not fully sure about this.

Are there any known issues with saving 2003 documents onto a 98 machine
through office?

If you installed Windows update KB885250 "MS05-011: Vulnerability
in server message block could allow remote code execution", try
uninstalling KB885250 in Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove
Programs. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=895900 "You
cannot save a file from your Windows XP-based or Windows
2000-based computer to a shared folder on a file server" for more
information.
