Save As Picture File Formats

I've searched for this information all over, but don't seem to find any
advice on choosing the correct file format for various needs.

When I use "Save Picture As" which file formats do I choose for which
purpose? For example, would I use JPG for a web graphic? WMF for print
documents?

In Publisher 2003, I've created a simple logo in one text box. I did try to
Save As a WMF, and inserted the .wmf file into a Word document. It printed
beautifully and had a reasonable file size; however, I found it was still
font-dependent (needed the font installed on the machine used) when I opened
the Word document on another machine.

Any enlightenment will be appreciated!

Thanks!

You can use WordArt, save it as a picture, WordArt is not font dependent. The feature
you tried might be in the next version of Publisher... If you have another drawing
program, you can paste the logo into it.
The text logo can be saved as a .jpg with a resolution of 300 dpi, good for printing.

Have you tried an EMF file?

If you have a program such as CorelDraw you can import the WMF or EMF into
there, convert the text to outlines/curves, and then re-export - this
removes the font-dependent-ness.
