When I save an Office document on a network drive and write the document name whole system slows down and letters appears one at the time. Even CPU goes up to 100%. I have Office 2003 Pro.

Guesses:
1. bad network card or cable
2. anti-virus software interferring.
3. bad newtork configuration.
4. Not a problem with Office or a bug in Office.

Discuss with the folks who run your network.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

This problem occurs only with Office documents, never with WordPad or other type of programs. Network works perfectly otherwise. We have even tried to close all the other applications and only had Word or Excel documents running. So for me it seems to be some kind of trouble with Office. We have all the latest updates. Other co-workers use Office 2003 Basic Ed. and don't have any troubles at all when they save on a network drive. The actuall computer is new IBM and works fine otherwise

Some other guesses perhaps...

Well we have disabled everything in msconfig services, autostart and so on, except the necessary network services. It only occurs when we writing the file name not when we open, close och print the document. Tricky?!
