Saving a customized Resource Sheet view in Project Server

OK, I open Enterprise Resource Global, I align the columns of data that are
important for my users, and hide other columns they are not interested in
seeing as the pool opens. I now want to save this view of the Resource Sheet
into a customized view, that appears in the menu, under more views...

I can see how to copy a view, but my changes never stick, and I know that
the global template is where I have to store the view so all users can see
it...

Can someone please provide the complete step by step of getting a view
modified , saving it under a new name and getting it into the global template
for all users to have. Every book I have seen, only describes a certain
portion of the steps. Thanks.

Tom,
Views and Tables are held in the Global.mpt file which is usually local to
the workstation.

To make your view available to other users, they would need to 'copy' the
view, or table, using the Organiser facility in their MSP. Send them the
template project, which includes the customised views and tables. The user
would then go to Tools>Organiser. Select the appropriate tab for Views,
Filters, Tables etc. Highlight the items in the right hand of the dialogue
box (which should have a drop down field at the bottom with the template
filename in it) and copy the selected items to the left hand field (which
should have a drop down field with Global.mpt in it).

You need to make sure that you provide reasonable instructions to the users
so they know what they need to copy, particularly where you have an optional
radio button to select task/resource.

The other alternative is to make the default location for the Global.mpt
file to be on the server but, as I'm a standalone user I don't know how to do
that and would recommend that you post your question the server discussion
group.

Thanks Richard...this helps...now 1 final question. I understand how to move
to the global template..but here is the thing...

When I grab an existing view, modify it the columns and now want to use the
column set up as the new view, how do I get that view to be saved...

copy a view, simply brings over the oringinal view, not my changes to the
order of the columns of data in that view. I need to make my columns 'stick'
so I can refer to the new customized view...for example...

Resource Sheet...default view does not have the columns in the sequence the
users want...so I open resource sheet...arrange the columns...now how do I
save that arrangement of columns...that is the part I am missing now.

thanks for your assistance.

Tom,
If I'm understanding you correctly, then the following may help.

To edit an existing view and then save that view do the following:

View>Tables>more tables. Edit the rows (which indicate the column headings
when the table is applied) to include the information you want to see.
Change the name of the Table and keep the checkbox for 'show in Menu'
selected. Select OK to save the new table. This should now show in the menu
so you can select it and apply it to your current view.

You may also want to create a new view which uses this table. If so, select
View>more views then select the view you wish to modify. Select Edit and in
the dialogue box change the Table value to the one that you have just
created. Change the name to something of your choosing. Select OK and OK
again or apply the view.

this should have created you a new view with a new name that appears in the
Views available list. check that this is copied into your Global.mpt file as
it may just reside in the project file.

Hope this answers your query

that is it...that was exactly the instruction I was looking for...I did not
realize the underlying table need to be reviewed. will give it shot and let
you know.
Thanks.

works like a charm. This will save some frustrations. Once I got the clue
about fixing the underlying table, it was fine. Sometimes you wonder why it
has to be so hard? Or at least seem like it. Thank you so much for your
help.
