Scheduling by skillset

A

Alison

I would like to build my schedule by assigning skillsets to tasks (rather
than resources). But, I also need to report actuals by resource name. I
assume there is some coding I could use when I'm setting up my resource sheet?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Allison,

I'm afraid it's either or.
If you define the skillset as a resource and assign that to a task, you can
only have actual work for that resource.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Jan. I'll try it with Win2K #1; WIN2k #2, etc. as resource names and
use a text field to add the actual resource name. It should be okay for me
to build with, but I'm concerned about users and reporting. I'll give it a
go!

Cheers,
Alison

Hi Jan,

I understand there's something called OBS-Organisation Breakdown Structure
in Primavera which is essentially the structure of functional disciplines in
the organisation. Let me know whether the same exists in MSP. We want to use
MSP also for resource estimation at the project initiation stages and then
ultimately for resource planning & tracking during the project execution.

One of the issues we came up with is like this...

During proposal phase we largely estimate work based on skillsets (Eqpt
engineering, process engineering, civil engg, electrical engg.....). But when
we start to execute the project we assign resources to the tasks based on the
skillset considered while estimation / planning. Then we want to track on the
actuals vs budget.

Presently we do the resource estimation ouside of MSP in an excel worksheet.
We stongly want do that in MSP (essentially the same project plan)...

Thanks,
3vikram...
