Scheduling of tasks

Rudy

I have a simple scheduling problem. On a new project using the default
calendar (8:00AM - 5:00PM), I create a task and assign a resource to the task
working at 25% units with 4hrs of work. Let's say the task starts on March 2,
2005 8:00AM. The finish time is on March 3, 2005 5:00PM. Isn't the task
suppose to finish at 10:00AM?
If I change the allocation units to different values (like 14%) I get even
more weird results (finish time: 1:34PM).
Has anyone figure out how Project Pro determines the finish time of a task?

Thanks,

- Rudy

Hi Rudy,

When you assigned your resource as 25%, what you are telling Project is for
each hour that passes, that resource is only working 15 minutes on that task
during that hour time span. The four hours of work you assigned takes the
resource until 5:00 PM on the second day to complete.

Try looking at the Task or Resource Usage view and zoom in until you can see
hours in the bottom tier. It will show the .25h for each hour.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Just remember the Prime Directive ... Work = Duration * Units.

4 man-hours work = 16 hours duration * 25% units On a task requiring 4
man-hours of work, once it starts with the resource committed at 25%, your
resource will finish the task when 16 hours on the working time calendar
have passed by.
