"Send Error Report"?

M

Michael

I cannot open files in Publisher, keep getting "Need to send error report".
When click "Send", Publisher restarts and same thing happens again and again.
Sometimes when trying to open file, Publisher just closes. Uninstalled and
reinstalled Office 2003. but problem openning files still exists in
Publisher. Do not seem to have the same problem in other Office programs.

Look for a details or more information
option the next time you see the error...
maybe it will give you an idea what's
causing the error.

It's important to have current printer and
video drivers. Also the following articles
may offer some ideas.

Disabled "script blocking" in Norton A/V, that did not help. BTW, you
mentioned having updated print drivers. This problem openning files in
Publisher seem to have started after I updated my printer driver as suggested
in an earlier thread to resolve printing problem. It fixed the printing file,
but I now have the File openning problem.

Did you read the article about the
Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in?

Is your video driver current?

Mary:
Wish I could tell you exactly what the error report says, but now when I try
to open a Publisher file, publisher just closes completely. When I was
getting the "Send Error Report" I did look at the details many times, but it
made no sence to me. I did click on "Send" and it would send a report; to
whom, I am not sure, I assume MicroSoft. However, I have never received a
response or solution back. As far as I can tell, these reports that are sent
are just to send information to some unknown person or entity; but they are
not to help the user, me. Regardless, I cannot open my existing files and I
cannot figure out why.
Please Help! Michael

Mary:

I wish I could share "error report' with you, but now Publisher just closes
when I try to open a file.

The first article you recommended does not apply to my situaution.

I diabled office plug-in in Norton, but that did not fix problem.

BTW - I downloaded an updated driver from HP last week, as you and others
suggested to fix a printing problem. The file openning problem started after
that download.

Do you have any other recommendations?

Thanks, Michael

Michael,
When you installed the new driver, did you completely clean out the old?
If you leave remenants behind, many times the new driver will not overwrite.
Have you tried opening Publisher in safe mode? Have you tried disabling your printer
before opening Publisher?
Uninstall your printer and re-install with the new driver.

There is a special link for Lexmark printers in the first paragraph.

Perform this action, maybe by finding your error in the log will give us a clue.

1.Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2.Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
3.In the Event Viewer, click the Application Log icon on the Tree tab.
4.To view the log, double-click any entry in the right pane where the Source column
contains Microsoft Office 10 for Microsoft Office XP or Microsoft Office 11 for
Microsoft Office 2003.
5.For additional information about how to use Event Viewer, click Help on the Action
menu

Mary:

Before I updated the printer driver for my HP printer, I uninstalled the
previous driver.

I was able to retreive the error report from Event Viewer. There was baoth
an error event and an information report. Here they are in that order:

Put Publisher into your disk drive, you will have the option to repair it.
That might solve the problem. Most of what I read seems to point to that as a fix.
Get rid of all the temp files that have been created because of the errors
In Windows Explorer, type %temp% in the address bar, anything in this folder can be
deleted, use your own judgment if you have doubts.

Your profile maybe corrupt as well
How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile

Through all this I have not asked about your anti-virus software, do you have one.
You might disable it while you are doing the above.
