Send/receive button missing

My pc crashed and, when restarted, the 'send/receive
email' button on Outlook 2000 had disappeared.

I have tried clicking on standard tool bars, but it does
not work.

How do i get it back?

One time I had this and it was due to not having a network connection defined. Verify you can still access the LAN and where ever your mail is located.
